A loose cover from Newlook is not a stretchy throw-over. Each one is patterned and cut to your sofa or chair, sewn with piping and closures where they belong, and fitted so it sits like upholstery. Over 95% of furniture styles can be covered, including Parker Knoll, G Plan, Ercol, Multiyork, Cintique, Sofa Workshop and M&S suites, and hundreds more.
We make loose covers for sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, stools, conservatory furniture and speciality pieces, in hundreds of fabrics from modern designs to classic weaves. Most of our covers are machine washable; we will advise where a fabric is dry-clean only.
The advantages of loose covers
- Good value for money, probably about a quarter of the cost of a new suite.
- Environmentally, a great choice: you are effectively recycling your sofa or suite.
- You keep the furniture you know fits well in your room, and avoid trailing the high street for a new one.
- Washability. Take them off, wash them, put them back.

Loose covers or reupholstery?
Both are fabulous value and both keep a suite out of landfill. Reupholstery gives better attention to detail, particularly where furniture has wooden features or deep buttoning, and it is a traditional craft supporting local workmanship. Will a loose cover fit tightly?
Yes. Because each cover is patterned to your furniture and sewn with closures, it sits like upholstery rather than a throw-over.
Can I wash them at home?
Most fabrics we use are machine washable at low temperatures. We will tell you before you choose if a fabric is dry-clean only.
Can you cover a sofa with wooden arms or deep buttoning?
Often, but these details are usually better served by reupholstery. Send a photo and we will advise honestly.
